Today marks the birthday of a man whose name has become a symbol of dignity and courage. Ruben Vardanyan — the founder of our organization — is not celebrating this day with his loved ones, but in solitary confinement, behind bars in Baku. Illegally imprisoned, cut off from the world — but unbroken.
Even in captivity, he remains exactly who he has always been: strong, principled, and devoted to his people and values.
“Despair means that the divine spark within you has faded, that you’ve stopped believing in anything, that you’ve simply raised your hands and surrendered… Never, I urge you… Please!”
He has declared hunger strikes twice — standing up not only for his own freedom but also for the rights of all Armenian prisoners. He keeps fighting despite his physical isolation.
His voice breaks through stone and silence.
Dear Ruben,
You taught us that true leadership is not about speaking loudly, but about silently sacrificing oneself for others.
You proved this when, in the darkest hour, you left everything behind and went to Artsakh — not to be saved, but to save.
And even after your forced capture, as your people were being uprooted, you didn’t think of yourself. You thought of those left without a home.
You asked only one thing of us — to keep helping.
And we do. For you. For all of us.
We are proud to walk the path you paved.
Working in the organization you founded is an honor.
Following your principles is our duty.
Loving you and waiting for your return is a matter of the heart.
Today, on this special day, we don’t just wish you a happy birthday.
We promise to stay strong.
We promise never to be silent.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR RUBEN.
You are free — in every word you speak, every step you take, every action you choose.
You are a leader.
You are our strength.
You are our choice.
