Two Armenian family homes were destroyed in the powerful earthquake that struck Venezuela, while several Armenians have been reported injured and others remain missing, according to Bishop Petros Manouelian, the Prelate of the Armenian community in Venezuela.

The Armenian community was affected as Venezuela reeled from twin earthquakes measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 that struck within a minute of each other near the country’s Caribbean coast, triggering widespread destruction, multiple building collapses and a nationwide state of emergency. Authorities have reported significant casualties, with rescue operations continuing amid fears that the death toll could rise.

Bishop Manouelian said the earthquake caused severe destruction and significant human and material losses, leaving residents gripped by fear and uncertainty as the full scale of the disaster continues to emerge.

Catholicos Aram I has been closely monitoring the situation throughout the day, remaining in constant contact with Bishop Manouelian to receive updates on the condition of the Armenian community and the broader impact of the disaster.

Bishop Manouelian and the local Armenian community leadership are continuing to assess the situation and remain in regular communication with Catholicos Aram I as relief and recovery efforts continue.
