Armenian students won two medals at the 16th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad held in Silesia, Poland on August 10-20.
A total of 241 students from 50 countries participated in the event.
As reported by Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, the Olympic team of Armenia was represented by Areg Barseghyan, Vyacheslav Petrosyan, Artavazd Harutyunyan and Maria Arakelyan – 12th grade students of the Shahinyan Special School of Physics and Mathematics.
Vyacheslav Petrosyan won a silver medal, and Artavazd Harutyunyan won a bronze medal. Areg Barseghyan and Maria Arakelyan received commendations.
The Olympiad was held in four stages: theoretical, observational, data analysis and planetarium.
The Armenian team was led by Vardges Mambreyan, teacher of the PhysMath School.
The Armenian team had won 3 bronze medals at the 15th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad in 2022.
