One of our era’s most celebrated, internationally recognised and influential composers, the Estonian Arvo Pärt celebrates his 90th birthday on 11 September. In collaboration with Hard-Chor Linz and under the baton of our chief conductor Dennis Russell Davies, Filharmonie Brno celebrates Pärt’s important anniversary with pieces composed using the tintinnabuli technique (from the Latin word tintinnabulum, meaning a little bell) which he developed in the 1970s and compared to an “escape into voluntary poverty”.
Tigran Mansurian’s work Orhnerg – Navapet bari (Hymn – Good Captain) is the culmination of his concentrated cooperation over two years with Filharmonie Brno. It was a joint commission from the orchestra and Mendel Festival and was successfully premièred on 22 July 2022 as part of the 200th birthday celebrations for Gregor Johann Mendel at the Staré Brno basilica.
The discussion with the dramaturge and his guests will take place at 6 pm in the director’s lounge. Reservations are required at besedy@filharmonie-brno.cz by 12 noon on Wednesday of the week of the concert.
This concert is supported by the Embassy of Armenia in the Czech Republic.
