On October 1, 2025, the monograph “Armenians in Poland” by Krzysztof Stopka and Andrzej Zięba presented at the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts – Matenadaran (53 Mesrop Mashtots Avenue, Yerevan).
The volume has been jointly published by the ANIV Foundation for Development and Support of Armenian Studies and Ruben Vardanyan Foundation.
The book is a Russian translation of the monograph “Ormiańska Polska” (“Armenian Poland”, Warsaw, 2018). The authors, Dr hab. Krzysztof Stopka and Dr hab. Andrzej Zięba, are renowned scholars and professors at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.
The book examines the presence of Armenians in Poland from the medieval kingdom to the present day. The territorial scope of the study is much broader than the borders of modern Poland. The authors expand the concept of “Polish Armenians” to encompass all Armenians who were beneficiaries of privileges once granted by Polish kings. The research focuses on the Armenian population of the entire multi-ethnic and multi-confessional Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. This confederative parliamentary elective monarchy, which existed from 1569 to 1795, included the lands of most of present-day Poland and Ukraine, the entire territory of Belarus and Lithuania, and some regions of Latvia and Russia.
The book is richly illustrated, with many illustrations appearing for the first time. In 2019, it was awarded the prestigious Polish Klio Prize, which is presented annually by the Association of Historical Book Publishers.
The monograph “Armenians in Poland” is the inaugural publication in the “Սփյուռք” (“Spyurk”) book series. This series includes volumes dedicated to Armenian communities in various cities, regions, and countries.
