The Chairman of the Armenian Community of Thuringia (Armenische Gemeinde Thüringen e.V.), Andranik Vardanyan, has filed a criminal complaint on suspicion of incitement to hatred through the trivialization of the Holocaust.

The complaint was prompted by a public statement made by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on February 13, 2026, during an interview with the international news channel France24 in Munich. In this context, it was alleged that Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan had committed crimes more severe than those committed by the National Socialists during the Second World War.

This statement constitutes a serious relativization of the crimes against humanity committed under National Socialism and violates the dignity of the victims of the Holocaust. Such trivialization must not be tolerated in a democratic society.
