UNACCEPTABLE WORDS AGAINST ARMENIANS AT PONTIFY GREGORIAN UNIVERSITY

The “Council for the Armenian Community in Rome” joins the shock and anger of all Armenians for what happened yesterday at the Pontific Gregorian University in Rome where the Azerbaijani Embassy at the Holy See organized a conference entitled “Christianity in Azerbaijan”, renting a venue of the Institute without revealing to the property the true political nature of the initiative, as has happened in the past for concerts organized at Roman parishes.

During this event, once again the speakers repeated the false theory about the Albanian Christian church that would have been neglected by the Armenian church; baseless and ridiculous theory that has no culture outside of Azerbaijan and that has been re-proposed to justify the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) erasing centuries of Armenian civilization and history in the region, after expelled from those territories, under the threat of ethnic cleansing, more than 120 thousand Armenians, who today, after losing everything, even the graves of their loved ones, are refugees in Armenia.

But not only such absurdities are echoed in the Gregorian language. You have even attacked Armenians, such as political analyst Fuad Akhundov, accusing them of destroying Azerbaijani monuments and religious sites and even saying that “these actions are not only acts of vandalism against Azerbaijan’s historical and cultural heritage, but they also reflect a policy anti-Christian aimed at distorting the true history of the region”.

We can only find that this is just a pathetic attempt to blame the enormous Armenian people, given the destruction committed recently in Nagorno-Karabakh and, at the end of the last century, in Julfa.

The “Council for the Armenian Community of Rome”, which provided to send a missive to the Rector of the Gregorian University, considers it unacceptable that pontical institutions, even in good faith, host such events characterized by Armenophobia, racism, intolerance and based on theories devoid of any historical, religious and scientific and offensive values. towards a people who shed their blood so as not to deny their Christian faith and who are preparing to commemorate next April 24 the 110th anniversary of the Genocide of 1915 where more than a million and a half Armenian Christians lost their lives.

It is unacceptable that universities, churches and parishes become victims of the manipulative politics of a regime that places “Freedom House” among the ten worst dictatorships in the world. A regime that with the sound of money and lies tries to annihilate the millennial civilization of a people that first, in 301, officially embraced Christianity.

WE APPEAL TO THE ITALIAN EPISCOPAL CONFERENCE AND THE VATICAN INSTITUTIONS TO WATCH CAREFULLY TO PREVENT SIMILAR MYSTIFYING ACTS AND NOT TO RISK BEING ACCUSED OF COMPLICITY WITH THE AZERBAIJIAN REGIME.
