Statement by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) of the United Kingdom Parliament
On Armenian Prisoners of War, the Forced Displacement of Armenians from Artsakh, Human Rights Violations by Baku, and Related Issues
The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Armenia in the United Kingdom Parliament expresses its deep concern over the following serious and ongoing issues:
The continued detention of Armenian prisoners of war by the Azerbaijani authorities, in violation of international law and the Geneva Conventions,
The forced displacement of the Armenian population of Artsakh in September 2023, which represents a clear case of ethnic cleansing,
The systematic repression of freedom of expression, the media, civil society, and fundamental human rights in Azerbaijan, which undermines the principles of democracy and the rule of law.
The Group calls on the United Kingdom Government and the international community to:
Continue and intensify efforts to secure the immediate release of all Armenian prisoners of war and detained civilians,
Protect the rights of the forcibly displaced Armenians from Artsakh and support the creation of conditions for their safe and dignified return,
Condemn the ongoing violations of freedom of speech and human rights in Azerbaijan.
The Group reaffirms its commitment to promoting peace, the protection of human rights, and long-term regional stability.
