Zoryan Institute, starting from the day of its foundation, has always been and is faithful to its adopted mission in genocide studies.

The study of genocide helps us understand the conditions under which genocide and other acts of mass violence are likely to take place. It exposes the warning signs of impending violence and it provides an understanding of the lasting consequences of such a crime․

Through ongoing research, publications, engaging conferences and education initiatives, the institute strives to raise awareness of genocide and the necessity of its prevention.

The Zoryan Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to scholarship and public awareness on issues relating to universal human rights, genocide, and diaspora-homeland relations. This is done through the systematic continued efforts of scholars and specialists using a comparative and multidisciplinary approach and in accordance with the highest academic standards.

Genocide, as a political decision and a crime, should be a matter of concern for the whole world, at all times (at war or at peace) because no racial, ethnic, national or religious group is safe from this man-made heinous crime.

Genocide is a political act and a consequence of geopolitical reality, for the planning and implementation of which, among other motives, the economic and territorial ambitions of the perpetrator also play an important role.

Armenian Genocide, as a crime committed against humanity, was also a political act by its nature, and the geopolitical reality of the given period. The WWI was a convenient opportunity for  its implementation.

It should be emphasized that the Zoryan Institute cooperated with Armenia and Armenian scientists even when Armenia was a member of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The first memorandum of cooperation about joint Diaspora  Studies was signed with late Mr. Dallakian co, then head of Diaspora  Studies Institute of Yerevan

Since then, the Zoryan Institute has continued its work in the independent Republic of Armenia, during all administrations, never getting involved in foreign or domestic political discussions nor in policy development, because the Institute is above politics, and the work done is aimed at supporting the development of scientific and educational fields.

At Zoryan Institute, education and raising awareness about Genocide is academic priority, never a political one.
