Aram Khachaturian’s 120th Anniversary gala concert in London

The event took place on Saturday 21 October 2023 in St John’s Smith Square, Westminster, London.

This concert was in celebration of world-known Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian’s 120th Anniversary. The Ambassador of Armenia Varuzhan Nersesyan delivered a speech about Khachaturian. During the first part of the concert it featured the UK premiere of orchestral suite “Khachatriana” – a medley of parts from the Gayane, Masquerade and Spartacus ballets, also as a second piece “Lezginka” from Gayane and the third piece “Spring Yerevan” song  performed by Klingen Chamber Orchestra under the baton of conductor and tenor Sipan Olah.

The concert also featured solo pieces by legendary Khachatruian performed by well-known musicians Ani Batikian  – violin, Polina Sharafyan – violin, Yulia Chaplina – piano, Maria Palazian – piano, Jack Hagop Mouradian – oboe, Hayarpi Yeghikyan – soprano and Sipan Olah – tenor.

Choral pieces were performed by the Klingen Choir with maestro Sipan Olah.

The concert presenter was Joanne Zorian.

Sipan Olah received a certificate of gratitude for his devoted work from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, which was officially handled to him by his Excellency Varuzhan Nersesian.

This concert was organised by the Klingen Choir and Cultural Association, under the auspices of the Embassy of Armenia in the United Kingdom and the Armenian Community Council of the UK.
