Festival of Embassies – Food & Culture & Tourism 2022
Saturday 4 June 2022, 8 am to 8 pm
in Vítězné náměstí, Prague 6
Motto: Food and culture connecting nations
The fifth edition of the Festival of Embassies – Food & Culture returns in full force after a two-year hiatus. This year, 46 countries from all continents will present their cuisine, their culture and themselves as interesting tourist destinations. The authenticity of the event is guaranteed by the fact that the presentation of each country is in charge mainly of their embassies, honorary consulates or chambers of commerce, and the ambassadors themselves attend in person. In terms of the number of participating countries, this is an exceptional event in Czechia. The organisers of the Festival of Embassies are the Municipal District of Prague 6 and Farmářské Trhy z.p. (FT), the organiser of the Markets at Kulat’ák.
Original dishes will be prepared at the stands of each country, often with the participation of well-known chefs, and in some cases, the ambassadors and their spouses will take part, too. All the meals on offer follow the philosophy of the Farmers’ Market to bring quality ingredients for quality gastronomy.
Visitors to the event, around 15,000 in previous years, know that they will be able to taste a plethora of dishes, mostly very typical of each country, and there will also be plenty of drinks, ice-creams and desserts. In addition to that, there will be a program with the participation of artists of selected countries.
The extensive cultural program, which the organisers have planned until 8 pm, will feature performances of ensembles from 12 countries taking part in the festival. The festival is traditionally hosted by Mr Martin Churavý.
This cultural journey will go from Slovak choirs to the opening with Czech drummers to playing traditional Mongolian instruments. There will also be Mariachis from Mexico and folk ensembles from Poland, as well as performances by Ukraine, Moldova, Kosovo, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, Romania and other countries under the auspices of their embassies. In the afternoon, there will be a short concert by United Flavour Sound System, a band serving up a modern mix of reggae, hip hop, r’n’b and world music.
“We were unable to hold the Festival of Embassies for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic and that’s why this year we’re focusing on the promotion and presentation of tourism to revive travel between the world and the Czech Republic. Food and culture connecting nations,” says Mr Pavel Šťastný, chairman of FT. “We’re happy to present 6 new countries in this year’s even: Japan, India, Azerbaijan, Sudan, the Union of Myanmar, and Tanzania with the island of Zanzibar.” says Mr Miroslav Dušek, vice-chairman of FT. The festival was created thanks to the close and long-lasting cooperation of foreign embassies with the Farmers’ Market at Kulaťák.
The high prestige of this event is confirmed by the auspices of Mr Jiří Růžička, 1st Vice-Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Mrs Markéta Pekarová Adamová, Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Mr Jan Lipavský, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, and Mr Vladimír Dlouhý, President of the Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic.
