On 14 and 15 April, as part of the nationwide outreach week ‘More EU in Armenia’, Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) from Armenia and the European Union visited the town of Goris, in Syunik province in southern Armenia.
From 11-16 April, YEAs from Armenia and the European Union are carrying out a series of activities across the regions of Armenia, highlighting the message of ‘More EU in Armenia’ through visits to universities, NGOs, EuroClubs and EU-funded initiatives.
A group of 50 Young European Ambassadors from Armenia is joined by six Young European Ambassadors from Spain, Greece, Germany, Sweden and the UK, fostering cross-border dialogue and exchange between young people from the EU Member States and Armenia.
The series of events aims to ensure that young people across Armenia better understand EU-Armenia relations, with developments such as the EU-Armenia Strategic Agenda and the launch of the visa liberalisation dialogue, and engage with the opportunities arising from EU-Armenia cooperation.
On 14 April, YEAs visited the ‘Restart Yeghegnadzor Civic Youth’ NGO and met with the EU Mission in Armenia to discuss the topic of youth and peacebuilding. They also paid a cultural visit to Tatev Monastery, located in Syunik province. On 15 April, YEAs visited Goris State University, Impact Hub Syunik, and Verishen Youth Centre.
“Connecting people, inspiring ideas, and bringing EU-Armenia aspirations together – that is the true spirit of the YEAs initiative for me,” Tsovik Sargsyan, a Young European Ambassador from Armenia, said. “These days will celebrate cross-border human connections, the EU-Armenia spirit in action, and I am truly enthusiastic to be part of it.”
The programme will conclude in Aparan, on 16 April.
The Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) initiative is a non-political, voluntary, communication network connecting young people from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and the EU Member States and the United Kingdom. The aim of the network is to raise awareness about the EU’s cooperation with its Eastern partner countries, showcase the tangible results of this cooperation, contribute to policy dialogue, increase civic activism, and work together for a better future. The YEAs initiative was created by the European Union in 2016 and has so far involved more than 2,500 young people from over 30 different countries.
