On 2 December, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas announced the allocation of €15 million towards sustaining peace and a more resilient Armenia.
The new funding was announced in the context of signing a new Strategic Agenda for the EU-Armenia Partnership on the same day in Brussels.
The new allocation will fund a variety of initiatives, including demining training and equipment, as well as regional confidence-building measures.
The EU funding will also cover detection, analysis and response to foreign interference.
“Russia and its proxies are already ramping up disinformation campaigns in Armenia ahead of next year’s parliamentary election,” said Kaja Kallas. “We see the same networks that we saw deployed in Moldova that were active, so the playbook is identical.”
She added that countering foreign interference requires a whole society approach, including civil society and free independent media.
“Let us be clear: you are not facing these challenges alone. We are here to provide active support,” Kallas concluded.
